Rod Whitfield

Roles

Music Journalist

City

Melbourne, VIC, Australia

History

Rod Whitfield joined his first band in the summer of 1987, and he played drums in various different bands up until his retirement in 2015. He is now a novelist and, at the time of writing, is completing work on his third novel, which is the second book in a novelisation trilogy based on the forthcoming epic fantasy/combat video game Brides of Vampira.

Rod became a music journalist in 1995, when he started work for Forte Magazine in Geelong. He was Buzz Magazine’s chief rock and metal writer from around 2001 to 2009, and since then he has worked for myriad magazines, newspapers, zines and publications, such as UK Prog, Beat Magazine, InPress/The Music, Brag, Metal Obsession and now Sense Music Media.

His music tastes could be described as ‘extreme’, literally one minute listening to Enya or smooth jazz, the next brutal deathcore.

Turning 50 has not dulled his passion for live music and insatiable hunger to discover new sounds.
