Brisbane rockers THE ROYALS are proving that big dreams can start in the most unlikely places - even a school tuck shop. Formed in February 2022 at Mount Maria College, the four-piece discovered their shared love of AC/DC before turning lunchtime jams into a growing musical journey.
Their first song together was a cover of Tom Petty’s Mary Jane’s Last Dance, performed in a school space doubling as a church.
Drawing on classic rock influences including AC/DC, Aerosmith, Midnight Oil and Powderfinger, The Royals combine old-school rock attitude with a fresh modern edge. Their songwriting often begins with a riff, developing organically through rehearsal-room jams before evolving into finished tracks.
Their latest single, Down The Line, explores the consequences of our actions, delivering a reminder that how we treat others can eventually come back around. Following earlier releases Run or Die, It’s a Joke and The Man in the Khaki Hat, the band are already looking towards their next recording, with an EP or album also on the cards.
Despite balancing music with school, work and everyday commitments, The Royals have earned two Battle of the Rock Band wins, taken out the Bluesfest busking competition and become finalists in the 2025 Queensland Music Awards.
Their momentum continues with an upcoming support slot for Australian favourites Jebediah on November 20, a particularly special opportunity after growing up listening to the band.
With a new music video for Down The Line on the way and plenty more music planned, The Royals are focused on building their audience, supporting fellow emerging artists and taking their sound to bigger stages.
For a young band already making waves, the message is simple: keep playing, keep pushing and never lose sight of why you started.
