Exclusive picture: Aaron Hose, Sarah L Allen, Misha Sharma + Damien Kechagias - the new lineup for TORIZON

Interview with lead singer Misha Sharma

Interview by: Jeremy Edwards - Scale Records | Sense Music Media

In the last 12 or so months, there has been so much brilliant music flowing out of Brisbane of all genres. The quality of new releases from the Sunshine State is world-class and there are certainly a number of newer bands helping Brisbane cement its reputation as a musical epicentre.

One of the fastest rising bands is TORIZON, an alt-rock four-piece fronted by the exuberant vocalist Misha Sharma. After working with a couple of different musicians, the bands current incarnation also includes guitarist Sarah L Allen, Damien Kechagias on bass and Aaron Hose taking care of all things percussion.

TORIZON may well be a fledgling outfit, but their industry prowess and determination has put them on a steep trajectory.

The Interview

We had a very entertaining chat with the band’s sprightly frontwoman Misha, beginning with the band’s development, which oddly begins with a story of a vocal cord injury, something that usually happens well into a singer's career.

The first time TORIZON hit the stage together was at the fantastic Wallapalooza festival at The Wallaby Hotel, Mudgeeraba in September 2019, where they played a very well-received set:

At the moment there's an air of uncertainty about the future, and this is undoubtedly starting to create concern amongst musicians. It's in these times it becomes necessary for those who can to share advice, skills and knowledge so that people remain informed and motivated. In a very humble response, Misha offers some great advice on some interesting topics:

Misha continues with an important theme about working on upskilling and doing as much as you can yourself:

Sarah L Allen not only fills the guitarist role, she also has a vital skillset the band are fortunate to have:

Damien Kechagias is the band’s bass player. Again, he brings some pretty helpful skills to the party:

Misha continues her great advice-giving with a word on recording jam sessions, a vital tool in helping a band become introspective and develop their performance:

By now you will have worked out that Misha is a pretty cruisy soul but there's still a certain tactful bluntness in this piece of advice:

Clearly these guys are self-sufficient. It's always interesting to get a band’s perspective on whether or not external management is required and again, some wise words here:

One of the biggest destroyers of an act can be an entitled attitude or an inflated ego of one or more band members. If everyone adopted the mindset Misha talks about next, there could be success for everyone. It doesn’t necessarily matter how good your music is, to a certain extent you have to pave your way with your personality:

TORIZON did have a very well-planned year ahead of them. Obviously, that has been grounded at the moment so Misha explains what they had planned and now how they’ve adapted to the current situation:

There's new music on the way from the band and Misha is also keeping their momentum going with a series of videos she’s making:

To round out the interview Misha discusses what they’ve dubbed ‘The Covid-Friendly Plan’. They’ve had to re-write the next 12 months they had planned and seemed to have come up with a great approach:

One of the main themes throughout the interview was the importance and value of upskilling and using talents that are external to the band. Ask questions whenever you can and if you're stuck in one area, work on another.

You’ll find TORIZON all over the usual socials and as they mentioned they’re releasing regular content that’s already dropping so look them up and get on board!
